Recycled library card with flowers

I've had my gelatos for close to a year, brushos maybe 6 months, but as usual with me new stuff needs to stay on my desk for a while before they get used. Once I did use them it didn't turn out looking like any of the gorgeous stuff others make. So leaving them, thinking, looking at blogs, videos, thinking a bit - THEN they're put to use again. And this time around I'm quite happy with the look.
I used an old library card sent to me by Mimi - thanks Mimi - and this is what I did with it: one layer of gesso, 3 shades of blue and purple gelatos, new coat of gesso, circle stencil from Tim Holtz and purple DI, a few splatters made with blue brusho. 3 stamps used on the background, using blue and black ink and gold EP.
Added 2 flowers made with a Prima stamp an gold EP, colored with blue brusho. Pearls, gold metal string and a gold embossed congratulations sentiment.
Mounted the library card onto a paper with engraved floral pattern with a kind of mother of pearl shine.

This card is for:
Creative With Stamps Challenge - #4 - Ink Splatters
Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media - Recycle (library card)
Creatalicious Challenges - #95 Anything Goes/option flowers

  1. I think the painty background is fabulous and it obviously works for you to let your materials bed-in before using them. Great collage effect.

  6. Oh this was a fun post. I find that my new supplies are much the same way as yours. (a lot like putting leftovers in the fridge, then tossing them later in a couple days!) What a clever idea to use a library card for the layering...and your gesso & gelato looks are fabby. Love the addition of the gold thread under the dimensional flowers too. Looks like you've certainly got the hang of gelatos as this is gorgeous!!! TFS & Hugs (our library cards are now like a plastic credit card...gone are the days of the cardboard ones).

  8. This is stunning Pia, gorgeous colours and fabulous details - you sound just like me, things have to sit on my desk for a while before I use them and I get disheartened when things don't go well and they sit there for a bit longer!

  13. Pia, I am a lot like you. Whenever I get something new that needs experimentation, I like to think about it for awhile before I use it. I didn't know anyone else did this - I'm glad I'm not the only one! I think your waiting and researching has definitely paid off! This looks stunning! The library card is brilliant and I love these gorgeous colours!

  19. SOOOOO COOOOOL! This is absolutely beautiful, my friend! All of it! You may take your time in using your stashed items, but when you get going, you really rock them! The composition of this card is perfect-- some free-form, some grid effect... visual and physical texture... love it. Big smiles!

  25. Your story is the same as mine, Pia! I usually own something for a good while before it gets used! And then it doesn't work out the way I had expected. This definitely is a masterpiece, and I have pinned it for my own encouragement and to share with friends! Beautiful! Hugs, de
