Getting messy with gelatos and brushos

Normally I do struggle with color challenges, but this one came together without too much struggle. It's been made over the course of 4 days as I've only had a free moments here and there to craft.

I started making my background on a piece of brown paper, which I covered with gesso before using gelatos, new layers og gesso and some blue brusho.

I heat embossed the flower (from a Tim Holtz stamp set) with white EP on watercolor paper, then colored the flower using purple brusho and fussy cutting it. Finally I added gold liquid pearls and some gold metal string I shaped into leaves.

Then I returned to the background, heat embossing two flowers with white EP and a birthday greeting in gold. Distressed the edges before attaching the panel to my A2 card base.

This card is for:
ColourQ - #351 Color Challenge
Cards und More - # 163 Embossing
Twofers - #24 A girl's best friends (flowers and gold)

  1. How gorgeous, Pia! Beautifully embossed, and lovely colors. I really like the use of gelatos with brushos. You always have something special that speaks to me. These flowers are especially pretty, especially with the tiny gold twine. Gorgeousness! Hope you enjoyed a wonderful week-end, Pia. hugs, de

  2. Awesome!! These soft but vibrant colours give a great tactile sensation!! You have made a fabulous work with gelatos and brushos! I have never thought to use gesso before play with these colours! Love, love very much the idea of the white embossed lines of the flowers plus the flower coloured!! I must remember it! The purple with the gold liquid pearls is wonderful and like the metal string for the leaves! The big sentiment looks amazing, too!! This is a masterpiece, one of my favourite works and I pinned it!

  9. Lovely Pia. I am ashamed to say my brusho's sit in my mixed media box along with a few other goods which I should be using, my first attempt was a disaster as I ended up tipping heaps onto my page, now I know just to sprinkle a little...so I am going to try again tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration and I just love that flower...and the use of the metal string...fabulous...love it.xx
