As for the shape I went with a step design made of kraft paper.The first step was decorated with a rope embossed paper, a string with Dienamics die cuts attached to it and some die cut starfish and seashells made with a Memory Box die. The second step us decorated with die cut waves from Memory Box and some more starfish. Then the third step and panel has been designed to look like a horizon with boats. Here I used stitched oval dies and letters from Dienamics, as well as one from Memory Box for the number - it's hard to spot but it's there in the upper right corner. The card was no quickie, but lots of fun to make.This card is also for these challenges:

I do love stepper cards - I think they always look a bit special, even though mine often take a bit of fiddling to stand up properly tbh! Love all these nautical elements.
Your nephew much of loved his card and you personalized it for him. Is this your first step card??? I do not remember seeing a step card before and this one is a 3 stepper card. But I can't get here as much as I would like to. Sorry I'm so late with my comment but been so busy with family over and things to do.
